Privacy
Verse Shards is a free project I run on my own, as Aurelius_Draco, from Australia. The PC companion keeps what it reads on your PC and only sends something when you switch a feature on or press a button. Your screenshots never leave your PC. There are no accounts, no ads and no cookies, and I don't sell or share your data.
What the companion keeps on your PC
Everything lives in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SC Shard Status:
- status.db: your overlay readings, past sessions from Game.log (including the hardware the game logs), moments you marked, reviews you saved, and a random install id made on your PC.
- config.json (your settings) and status.log (the app's own log).
- Your pilot card and its picture. Never sent.
- reports: Issue Council drafts, with a copy of your Game.log and the screenshots you picked. They stay there until you attach them to a report yourself.
The app reads the corner of your screen where the game's overlay sits, your Game.log and your screenshots folder. It never reads the game's memory or network traffic. It keeps readings until you delete them, and uninstalling asks whether to delete the folder.
What it sends, and when
Anything sent to verseshards.com carries the random install id. It isn't linked to your RSI account, but it does tie together things sent from the same install.
- Share my readings (off until you switch it on): every 5 minutes, your shard and server, the area (a planet, a jump point or open space, never the exact spot), server fps, players, ping rounded to 10 ms, packet loss, known-issue ids, game build, app version, screen size and how cleanly the overlay was read. After each session: build, region, length, load time, whether it crashed, and disconnect codes with the game's wording. Set up shows exactly what went last.
- Show other shards downloads the board. Nothing about you goes with it.
- App error reports (off until you say yes): where the app went wrong, with file paths cut to file names and quoted text taken out.
- Buttons you press: group posts (shard, server, area, activity, your note, and your handle only if you add it); pirate reports (your shard and the area, never a handle; if you report somewhere else, only the area it's in is kept); "I had this too"; Issue Council links; Send for review on an error the app doesn't know (up to 10 log lines with names, numbers, paths and addresses swapped out, shown to you first); and Send for review on a marked moment (the time, build, shard, what you typed and the issues found near it, never screenshots or log lines).
- Update checks ask GitHub for the latest version. You can switch them off in Set up. The About tab asks GitHub for the project's star count.
- Library updates (off until you switch them on) download the known-issues list. Nothing about you goes with it.
What the site keeps, and for how long
- Shared readings: about a day. Hourly shard averages: 45 days. Session stats: 60 days.
- Group posts are deleted when they end (pirate reports after 45 minutes), with the handles and replies. A summary with no handle stays 3 days. Close your post and it's gone straight away.
- "I'm interested" keeps your handle and note for the poster only, until the post ends or you withdraw.
- Reviews, marked moments, app error reports, disconnect codes and overlay read-quality records: 90 days, then deleted. For an answered review, after 90 days only the error and its answer stay, so the next player with the same error is told straight away.
- Workarounds, comments (with a name if you add one), Issue Council links and votes on known issues stay until they're removed.
- Stories, creators and orgs show only after a moderator approves them. A rejected screenshot is deleted straight away.
- Help wanted applications are seen only by me, and I delete them once they're dealt with.
The site doesn't store IP addresses. Cloudflare, which hosts it, uses them for a moment to slow down floods of requests.
Cookies and browser storage
The site sets no cookies. Your browser keeps a few things for the site on your device only: a random voter id (so a vote counts once), your region and shard, view choices, a dismissed patch notice, and your "I'm interested" sends, including the handle you typed. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes them.
Other services
- Cloudflare hosts the site, its database and screenshots, and sees your IP address like any host.
- Discord: the alerts channel gets shard health, problem spikes, patch days and a weekly round-up, which names approved creators, the featured org and story bylines. Never a group post handle.
- YouTube: creator cards link out. Thumbnails are copied to the site's own storage, so pages don't load anything from YouTube.
- GitHub: your browser asks GitHub for the star count shown in the footer. The companion checks GitHub for updates.
- UEX prices and RSI's status page are fetched by the site's server, not your browser.
- Links to RSI's sign-up page include my referral code. Using it is up to you.
No ads, no ad trackers, no analytics cookies, no selling data.
Getting something removed
Take your post down from the app, withdraw "I'm interested" on the site, or undo a vote. For anything else, ask on Discord or open an issue on GitHub, and I'll remove it by hand. For something the companion sent, include your install id: Set up shows it with what was last sent. If you can't find it, tell me roughly when and what, and I'll track it down.
Deleted data can stay in Cloudflare's short-term backups and request logs for up to 30 days before it's gone for good.
Changes
When the code changes what's sent or kept, I change this page and the date below.
